If you just happened to be out and about Buriram last night, strolling past the park area in central area next to the Tesabahn, you would have bumped into a crowd estimated to be of at least 40 thousand other local residents who were taking in the annual concert event of commemorating His Majesty's 81st birthday.
Dozens of performing groups, arrayed in colorful satin or silk costumes, drawn from the various provincial primary and secondary schools were on hand to demonstrate their finely-honed skills in song and dance and to pay their deepest respects and well-deserved tribute to Thailand's longest reigning monarch.
The Romburi Park Grounds were aglow from one end to the other in beautifully strung multi-colored strands of lights reflecting off the trees and manicured gardens, sidewalks and along the magnificent waterway area surrounding the local amphitheater.
Smiling and helpful vendors were there, too, by the dozens, hawking their wares, holiday gifts and treats to a receptive crowd, while legions of delighted children scampering to and fro'.
Because this year's huge overflow crowd of spectators and number of participants was far too large to be accommodated under normal circumstances in the stands and seating areas set up for specifically for this occasion, the city engineers wisely arranged to set up additional large video screens in various locations around the park areas to give the incredible number of on-lookers a decent point from which to observe the activities.
This gala annual event was well worth the effort to come out to witness, and what's more, it couldn't have been a more pleasant night weatherwise for such a wonderful event. Happy birthday, health and prosperity, your Majesty!
