Saturday night I took my friend Gordon Peake from Manchester England out to sing karaoke after an afternoon of painting a wall at the TreeHouse Center. Indulging in a songfest is one of my favorite things to do whenever I can find the time. Lately we have not had much time to do so. When the opportunity arose we took it.
This time I decided to take my handy digital camera along just in case something reportable might appear. That's what happens when you take on the editorship for a local newspaper. Even funtimes become possible opportunity times for reporting. After a quiet two hours of singing we decided to head for home. It seems, that as I get older, bedtime is getting earlier. But not this time.
Just as we were rising from our table a group of incoming guests appeared. Two longtime friends--- Mr. Thitipong Piroon the Director of Buriram Tourism, Sports and Recreation, and Dr. Thongchai Anuntagool, former governor of Ubol Ratchathani and Buriram Provinces who is now the administrator for TTV Broadcasting Company which includes the Bangkok Nation Newspaper invited us to join them at their table. So much for going home early.
Having worked my way through university as a night club singer in New Orleans some 43 years ago I was challlenged to do a mini-concert which I was willing to tackle. After about 20 renditions of old Elvis, Beatles, Sinatra, Credence, Hank Williams, Simon and Garfunkel songs I was truly and thoroughly exhausted.
It was great spending a lot of the time with the both of them and catching up with the latest news and conversing about our dream to build Buriram's first free sandy beach, English language and Scout camp grounds and facilities along the Huay Talat Resevoir. Hopefully we will now generate some additional support for the project which is long overdue.
